As the last
days before graduation draws near, the Bearded Bush Boys of 7D decided that
they wanted to go on a full day walk to explore the Makuleke Wilderness. We
ended up walking nearly 18km, leaving camp as the sun rose, and finishing off 8
hours later.
Short
highlights included walking through the Fever Tree Forest, having breakfast of
Corned Beef and Rice cakes on the banks of the Limpopo River (it tastes better
than what it sounds), exploring the Jackalberry Forest, climbing a monstrous
Sycamore Fig Tree, startling 5 Southern Ground Hornbills and weaving in between
a herd of approximately 15 bull elephants. This walk was a great time to
reflect on the past year- on friendships built and on life lessons learnt.
As an instructor, it was truly amazing to see how each one of these
remarkable people grew as individuals during the past year. I can’t wait to see
what the future holds for conservation with these guys entering the industry.
7D, we salute you!
